About
What are ‘Scorching Events’?
The Scorching Events (also affectionately known as the ‘Scorchers’) are:
- A range of multisport events including Triathlons, Duathlons, Open Water Swimming events and any other event ideas we come up with!
- Are based in Wellington, New Zealand
- Are run by ‘the Angels’, a brother and sister team, Daryl Bloomfield (the big brother) aka Angel, and Keri Bloomfield (the bossy little sister) aka Angel 2
- The Angels are supported by a close group of family and friends who work together as a professional event management team who have a strong track record in delivering quality events
- Scorching Events are (as commented by our participants) fun, friendly, organised, and supportive professional events
- Scorching Events are for participants of all abilities (from Scorcher Virgins to ones who have been around the block once, twice or more)
- They are a participation focused event series. Although we do professionally record all participants times – including splits, as we know how some of you like to look at all the important numbers
- Our aim is to encourage fitness and participation through a series of non competitive events
- There are no first prizes (don’t worry, no group hugs either). We instead have plenty of spot prizes. Our prizegivings are legendary, and worth hanging around for after our events
- Random Fact #1: The first Scorcher was held in May 2003
- Scorching Events attract a loyal following. Our most regular ‘Scorcher-ee’, Helen, is nearing 90 events (as at October 2015), and we have over 200+ participants that have done 10 or more Scorchers, and last summer we reached our 16,000th registration
- The Angels and Scorcher Crew have a philosophy of working with suppliers and sponsors that are equally professional and we enjoy working with. If we enjoy our job, then this will reflect on the quality of event that we provide
- Scorching Events tend to attract quite a cool bunch of people who ‘get it’ and who’s values match ours.
We believe good events are those that are professional and well organised. Great events also involve a bit of fun too, which we like injecting in large quantities. We hope you can join us for some Scorcher magic soon.
Introducing the Scorcher Crew:

Daryl Bloomfield (Angel) (the ‘big brother’)
In 1998 Daryl survived his first Triathlon. After a few years of “getting by” in triathlons he decided this sport was not just a “oncer” and worked out he was hooked.
Between 2001 & 2004 he was a member of the committee for the Wellington Triathlon & Multisport Club (Club President 2002-2004), he resigned in 2004 to give new things in life a go. Namely creating events and series that cater for all types of participants and that full gaps in the Wellington market. With the establishment of Scorchers, a significant gap in the market has now been filled. It has taken a lot of Daryl’s personal time and effort to grow the event series to what it is today.
Daryl has completed in multiple iron distance races.
He the one that usually comes up with the really crazy ideas, and then Angel 2 ‘moderates’ them (see below).

Keri Bloomfield (Angel 2) (the bossy little sister)
Keri has over 10 years experience (yes 10…we know she has a ‘young’ face, but don’t be fooled) as an Event Manager for several corporate and private event management companies both in New Zealand and England. She is well known for her organisation and management of numerous events in New Zealand. Her portfolio has included Hot Air Balloon Fiestas, outdoor community concerts, Gala Award evenings and conferences.
Having returned to New Zealand in 2003, Keri has since dabbled with competing (or rather “completing”) in Triathlons and is enjoying mixing this with her event management and marketing background.
Now working within ‘management’ in the concrete CBD jungle during the week, she can also be found doing her best impersonation of ‘bossy little sister’ during event weekends. Although Mum wont let her stomp her feet too much, so no need to be too worried.
